โœˆ๏ธ How to Get from Incheon Airport to Central Seoul

Incheon International Airport (ICN) sits about 50 km west of downtown Seoul. Three options cover almost every traveler: the AREX airport railroad, the airport limousine bus and taxis. The right choice depends on where your hotel is, how much luggage you carry and what time you land.

Option 1: AREX airport railroad (train)

AREX connects both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 with Seoul Station, with the All-Stop Train also serving Gimpo Airport and stations along the route. There are two services: the Express, which is non-stop to Seoul Station, and the All-Stop train, which calls at every station and connects with Seoul subway lines.

The Express (non-stop, three stops: Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Seoul Station) takes about 43 minutes from Terminal 1 and 51 from Terminal 2 and costs around 13,000 KRW at the counter, with cheaper online tickets often available. The All-Stop takes about an hour or a little more and is considerably cheaper, at roughly 5,000 KRW. Trains run from early morning until close to midnight, so it is not an option for very late arrivals.

AREX is the most predictable choice because road traffic does not affect it. It works best if your hotel is near Seoul Station, Hongik University (Hongdae), Gongdeok or a subway line you can reach by transferring at those stations. Buy a T-money card before you board and tap it at the gates to avoid ticket machines.

Option 2: Airport limousine and city buses

Airport buses stop right outside the arrivals hall and drop passengers close to major hotels and district hubs such as Myeongdong, Gangnam, Jamsil and Dongdaemun. Fares are typically about 17,000 KRW for standard airport buses and 18,000 KRW for premium limousine buses on the main routes.

Travel time is usually 60 to 90 minutes, and can be longer at rush hour. The main advantage is that you can travel comfortably with your luggage and are dropped near your accommodation with no transfers. Check the route number that stops closest to your hotel before you leave home, and look for the numbered bus stops outside the arrivals gates.

Buses run late into the night and some routes operate around the clock, which makes them useful for red-eye arrivals when the trains have stopped.

Option 3: Taxi and ride-hailing

A regular or deluxe taxi from Incheon to central Seoul commonly costs somewhere between 60,000 and 90,000 KRW including expressway tolls, depending on the destination and time of day. A night surcharge applies late in the evening. International taxis with English support and vans for groups are also available at set fares.

Kakao T is the most widely used taxi app in Korea, and international payment support has improved, but you should not rely on it working perfectly with a foreign card. Keep some cash or a Korean-compatible card as backup.

A taxi makes sense for groups of three or four, for travelers with a lot of luggage, or when you arrive outside train and bus hours.

Practical tips before you leave the airport

Get connected first: pick up an eSIM or SIM at the arrivals hall or activate an eSIM you bought earlier so that maps and taxi apps work. Naver Map and Kakao Map are more accurate than Google Maps for walking and public transit directions inside Korea.

If you have heavy bags and a hotel far from a station, consider the same-day luggage delivery services that operate in the arrivals hall and drop bags at your hotel so you can travel light on the train.
