๐Ÿš Intercity Bus

Find the right terminal, book your ticket and board the right bus between Korean cities.

Intercity buses connect big cities with hundreds of regional destinations, including many towns that KTX and other trains do not reach. If your destination has no handy train, check the intercity bus first.

๐Ÿ”Ž Where are you going?

An intercity bus may be the easiest option.
Important
The intercity bus terminal and the express bus terminal can be in completely different parts of the same city. Always check the exact terminal name before you travel to the terminal.

Cannot find your bus?

  1. 1
    BusTago

Search here first. Intercity bus routes and reservations.

    Languages: Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese

  2. 2
    T-money Intercity Bus

Not found? Search here next. Some routes appear on only one system.

    Languages: Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese

  3. 3
    KOBUS

Still not found? The route may run as an express bus.

    Languages: Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese

Choose your language in the menu at the top of each site.

Step 1: check the exact terminal

Do not search only for the city name. Read the full terminal name on your reservation. Seoul has several long-distance terminals in different parts of the city, and going to the wrong one can make you miss your bus.

  • Dong Seoul Terminal
    ๋™์„œ์šธ์ข…ํ•ฉํ„ฐ๋ฏธ๋„
Near Gangbyeon Station, Subway Line 2
  • Seoul Nambu Terminal
    ์„œ์šธ๋‚จ๋ถ€ํ„ฐ๋ฏธ๋„
Near Nambu Bus Terminal Station, Subway Line 3
Traveler tip
Copy the Korean terminal name into your navigation app. It is usually safer than searching for โ€œSeoul Bus Terminalโ€.
Not the Express Bus Terminal
Seoul Express Bus Terminal mainly serves express routes. Your ticket decides which terminal you need.

Step 2: buy your ticket

๐Ÿ’ป Online

Use an official booking website or app.

๐ŸŽซ At the ticket counter

Say the destination, the departure time and the number of people. Showing the destination in Korean helps.

Example: Sokcho, 2 people, 2:30 PM.
๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ At a kiosk

Bigger terminals have self-service machines. Languages vary by terminal.

Is your booking screen really your ticket?
You may get a mobile or QR ticket, or a reservation that must be issued at the terminal kiosk or counter before departure. Read your booking instructions.
Foreign card tip
Online payment compatibility can vary by booking service and card issuer. If your foreign-issued card is not accepted online, try the terminal ticket counter or a kiosk.
Your T-money card is not a long-distance ticket
A regular T-money card for city buses and subways should not be your default way to buy a reserved intercity seat. Buy the correct ticket first.
Holidays and busy times
Book ahead for Friday evenings, weekends, public holidays, summer holidays, Seollal and Chuseok. Popular routes can sell out.
Changing or canceling a ticket

Cancellation fees increase as departure approaches, and they can differ on weekends, holidays and peak travel periods. Check the cancellation conditions shown when you book.

Step 3: read your ticket

Tap a Korean word to see what it means.

Step 4: at the terminal

  1. 1
Arrive 15 to 30 minutes early

Allow more time for a first visit, ticket issuing, big bags, weekends and holidays.

  2. 2
    Find the departure board

Match destination, time, bus company and platform.

  3. 3
    Go to your platform

Follow the platform number on your ticket (์Šน์ฐจํ™ˆ).

  4. 4
    Board and find your seat

Check the destination on the bus, show or scan your ticket, then sit in your seat number.

Buses usually leave on time, and boarding often starts shortly before departure.

Step 5: on the bus

๐Ÿงณ Luggage

Large bags usually go in the luggage hold under the bus. Keep your passport, wallet, phone, medicine and valuables with you. Collect your bag before you leave the terminal.

๐Ÿš Stops on the way

Some buses go straight and others stop on the way. Do not get off just because other passengers do. Check your destination first.

์งํ–‰ = direct route ยท ๋ฌด์ •์ฐจ = non-stop
๐Ÿšป Rest stops

Long-distance buses usually have no toilet on board. They stop at highway service areas. When the driver announces a break, check how long it is, remember where your bus is parked, take your phone and valuables, and be back on time. A photo of the bus or its plate helps.

Terminals and routes can change. Confirm the terminal on your booking.

๐Ÿ”„ You do not need to go back to Seoul

The intercity bus network links regional cities directly. A direct regional bus can save you hours.

  • Busan โ†’ Tongyeong
  • Busan โ†’ Geoje
  • Daegu โ†’ Andong
  • Gangneung โ†’ Sokcho

Always search your real start and end points first.

What about Jeju?
Jeju has its own island bus network. For trips within Jeju, use Jeju bus information instead of BusTago or KOBUS.

Bus or train?

๐Ÿš Choose an intercity bus when
  • โœ“ Your destination has no train station
  • โœ“ The train needs several transfers
  • โœ“ A direct bus links two regional cities
  • โœ“ Your destination is a small town
  • โœ“ The terminal is closer to your accommodation
๐Ÿš„ Consider the train when
  • โœ“ KTX gives a much faster direct trip
  • โœ“ You travel between major cities on a high-speed line

Compare both before you choose.

Intercity bus FAQ

Is an intercity bus the same as an express bus?

No. Express buses run mostly on expressways between big cities with few stops. Intercity buses also use regular roads and can stop on the way, and they reach more small towns.

Which website should I use?

Start with BusTago or T-money Intercity Bus for intercity routes, and KOBUS for express buses. Some routes appear on only one of them.

Do I need to print my ticket?

It depends on the booking. Some give a mobile ticket, others need a ticket issued at the terminal. Read your booking instructions.

Is there a toilet on the bus?

Long-distance buses usually have no toilet on board. They stop at highway service areas.

Can I use my T-money card to board?

Not for a reserved long-distance seat. Buy the correct ticket first.

How early should I arrive?

We suggest 15 to 30 minutes, longer if you need to issue a ticket or you have large bags.

Can I get from Busan to Tongyeong without going through Seoul?

Yes. Intercity buses connect many regional cities directly. Search your real start and end points.

Is there an intercity bus in Jeju?

Jeju has its own island bus network. Use Jeju bus information, not BusTago or KOBUS.
