๐Ÿ›๏ธ Embassy & Consulates

Find your embassy in Korea and know what to do if you lose your passport, are detained, hurt or need to get home.

Lost your passport? Been arrested or detained? Had a serious accident? Need to contact your family or return home urgently? Your countryโ€™s embassy or consulate may be able to help.

๐Ÿšจ Immediate danger?

Call 112 or 119 first when someone is in danger or hurt. An embassy is not an emergency rescue service.

Search for your country or nationality. Contact details are copied from the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs directory.

Popular countries

Embassy or Consulate: Which One Do I Need?

Embassy

Usually your countryโ€™s main mission in Korea. For most travelers this is the best place to start.

Consulate or consulate-general

May provide passports, emergency documents and help for citizens. Some countries have consulates outside Seoul, such as Busan or Jeju.

Honorary consulate

May offer only limited help. Not every honorary consulate can issue passports or give emergency consular help.

The directory lists embassies and some consular posts. For an emergency, use the contact information your own government gives.

What Embassies Can and Cannot Do

Embassies can help with
  • โœ“ A lost passport
  • โœ“ Emergency travel documents
  • โœ“ Arrest or detention (consular help)
  • โœ“ A serious accident
  • โœ“ Contacting family in an emergency
  • โœ“ Crisis assistance
Embassies normally cannot
  • ร— Override Korean law
  • ร— Release you from custody
  • ร— Act as your lawyer
  • ร— Pay ordinary travel expenses
  • ร— Guarantee medical or legal outcomes

No Embassy in Korea?

Some countries do not have a resident embassy in South Korea. If you cannot find yours, check whether your country is represented by:

  • โ€ข A non-resident embassy in another country
  • โ€ข Another countryโ€™s embassy under a consular arrangement
  • โ€ข An honorary consul
  • โ€ข The emergency assistance center of your foreign ministry
We do not guess which embassy represents you. Check your own foreign ministryโ€™s official information.
