Find a currency exchange counter
Look for signs saying Currency Exchange, Foreign Exchange or a bank name.
Exchange cash, withdraw Korean won and avoid unnecessary fees. You can use cards for most purchases in Korea, but a small amount of KRW is useful. Select your airport to find exchange counters, international ATMs and practical arrival tips.
You do not need a lot of cash when you arrive in Korea. Recommended: a card plus a small amount of KRW.

Usually choose KRW
An ATM or card terminal may offer to convert the transaction into USD, EUR, JPY or your home currency. This is called Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC).
If you choose your home currency, the ATMโs or merchantโs conversion rate and extra markup may apply. If you choose KRW, your card network or issuer converts it under your cardโs terms.
To avoid DCC markup, choose KRW unless you have compared the displayed conversion and deliberately prefer the home-currency option.
If you do not see the rate and fees, or you feel pressured to choose, decline the conversion and tell your card issuer. A machine must process your choice.
Before pressing Confirm, check the total fee shown on the screen.
Before you travel, ask your card issuer whether overseas ATM withdrawals are enabled and what the daily limit is.
Limits can vary by bank, machine and card issuer.
Usually a little, not a lot.
